Sometimes, I find myself discussing with friends or with myself, what is art? Is it something that inspires the sense of beauty, that challenges the one experiencing it or is it something that moves on a personal level?
I’d say that art as whole is a mash of all of these elements on different levels of intensity, but it’s rare to witness a piece which is able to master the whole of these very particular sensations into one single and cohesive experience.
Now that the definition is out of the way, we can focus on Sirpinmurtaja’s second album and how does it scale on the art level?
Overall, I have the firm belief that the Finnish have indeed mastered their craft in terms of creating true pieces of art in Metal form. And “Ajanvalajain Nouseva Myrsky” is the ultimate proof that Black Metal may indeed embody some avant-garde sensibilities and even some baroque touches in its tinge without losing its essence.
Especially since the album can be a feast for the senses in many ways, going from its brilliant cover art to the music itself, which flirts heavily with the neoclassical and the sense of the majestic and the regal.
So, for those who’d be willing to partake into what art is all about in its purest form, this record will get you covered in all of the points we’ve discussed earlier. Highly recommended for fans of Sühnopfer and Obsequiae.
