Three things are absolute certainties in life, first is death, second is gravity and lastly is the fact that Portugal has become the undisputed epicenter of quality Raw Black Metal in the world.
I find it amazing how active Iberia as a whole has become in terms of the quantity and undeniable quality of the entities emerging from its rotten and fertile soil.
Especially in times like these, where the label of “Raw Black Metal” has been used to describe even the most amateurish and laughable attempts at the genre. So it’s of great relief to find bands like Äbismo, which still employs the due seriousness and devotion to its work without compromising the essence of what true Black Metal truly is.
Although short, this first demo will impress any fan of the more obscure and sinister side of Black Metal. The instrumentation is not particularly technical but it’s extremely functional at delivering a dense and desolate atmosphere.
A highlight here are the vocals, which ebb and flow from desperate wails of pain to cavernous evocations resounding through ancient and dilapidated walls.
Thus, Äbismo is a name that should not be ignored by anyone who appreciates the darker and more mysterious fringes of the genre.
Definitely a highlight for 2024 so far and a noticeable manifestation of malign energies in music form.
