Brazilian label Black Metal Store announced their new license as a new Dutch Death Metal promise. I have been always an opened mind person when it comes for newcomers. Netherlands was responsible to export us very good Death Metal bands that influenced and inspired this style.Amongst Sweden and USA,Netherlands couldn´t be wrong with such elite as Pestilence, Sinister, Asphyx, Gorefest,Monastery and etc.
Newcomers of Dauthuz presented us this year with their second full intitled Cold .The cover reminds some Edge Of Sanity influence…Although Dauthuz is an only 6 years old band, the line up consists of veteran musicians from not so known Dutch bands but old ones and forgotten jewels such as Eternal Solstice,Nembrionic and Cardinal. The musician are not youngbloods and know clearly what Death Metal is all about.
Cold is not a modern or technical Death Metal album with a lot of blast beats. The first song The Evil Wicked (despite all Iron Maiden’s title influence) has a pleasant timbre of Acheron-Rite Of Black Mass album, but this timbre quickly changes for the following A New Dawn, a song with melodic riffs and some Edge Of Sanity are there.
The Dead is the next attack. I could define this song more Dutch oriented. The vocalist Emiel does a very good job. You note the legendary vocalist L.G.Petrov (RIP) is one of his main influence. But the sound structure and slowly/heavy parts are much more into Asphyx, maybe the true Dutch Doom Death Metal are presented here.
The Apocalypse is much more Swedish oriented with a lot of melodic parts. If you are into Edge Of Sanity ,this is for you!
Cold ithe title itself says it´s morbid , cold, dark and horrific with a lot of samples that take us into some inner thoughts of our souls.
Hellborn is the fastest song of this album with a lot of screaming at the same time mid tempo guitars, no rest for the wicked.
Fuck!Gore is a brilliant song, despite the Left Hand Path sentiment here. This song is very well structured, sick and heavy. I stopped writing some lines about this song and bang my head as much as I could.
To complete this album Termination and Crossfire are the last songs to close this chapter.
Although there isn’t any new element on this album. But who cares???I believe Dauthuz does not want to create something new but to play this style at its best… I do not consider them a clone or copy.Musicians of this band have been around for so long since Death Metal was raging with all fury in early 90ies. This is the school the members of this band grow up for and it is naturally they will play it on this way….
