Down the southern part of the Danube basin, in a land historically known as the Balkans, for centuries, the local population has cultivated a specific relation towards certain periods of daytime. With the basis on which all tribal activities were organized, one such period was an exception to all others and concerned the movement at particular times of the night. The locals call this period “Gluvo doba” (English: “Deaf Age”), and in the old beliefs, it is also known as “Demon Hour.”
Let’s think of Osmose Production and remember a bad Black Metal release they made or times they fell into internet drama or messed up with social media like a bunch of motherfuckers have been doing in recent years shaming Black Metal and wearing panties under leather pants. Not with the guys from Osmose Productions.
And proving how badass the guys are, the CMPT project came to us, a meteor from Serbia and the Balkan region.
Its songs are simply constructed and either you feel the effect of its smoothly flowing lines or you don’t. The musical elements are simple and they work. I love this kind of sound. it’s grand, dark, brutal… CMPT is everything 21st century Black Metal should be.
A reminder from the band: The band’s official name is Cmpt – not Smrt. “Smrt” is a transliteration to the Western alphabet. The name is written as Cmpt and pronounced “smrt”. Smrt means “death” in most South Slavic languages.
Primitive Black Metal with Death, Balkan dark folklore. Raw Black Metal in essence with a raw sound, but with a melodic and rhythmic guitar and bass line. it’s possible? Hear and feel the essence of a Black Metal reminiscent of Satanic Warmaster and Gorgoroth, to say the least.
There are 14 tracks of pure Black Metal, raw, elaborate, set in Balkan culture and with a lot of diluted folklore in its essence, Krv i pepeo (Blood and ash) brings the best of current black metal, and if you’re like me, afraid of listening to some new bands or being disappointed with what is being recorded and want a little bit of the flame of what was done in the 90’s with a lot of preciousness and a sound that respects what Black Metal represents, check out this release.
“Deaf Age” refers to the darkest moment in the night, the time when unclean spirits and the forces of the underworld take over the world while nature sinks into silence. It is commonly believed to start somewhere around midnight and last until the first morning sounds. At that time, the barrier to the beyond is the weakest, so witches and demons are easily connected through haunted practices.
Krv i pepeo (English: “Blood and ash”) directly refers to this ritualistic bond and, at the same time, incidentally represents two symbols that have historically marked the entire Balkan continuum. Uncovering the layers of the profane, Krv i pepeo is a conceptual record composed as a ritual piece of dark Balkan sorcery, and it is a spiritual offering to the ancient cult of the dead!
