Dungeon Synth emerged in the late 80s and early 90s, we have style icons like Mortiis and Burzum himself in his atmospheric phase and Mistigo varggoth Darkestra. Here we have OldWolf in a side project submerged in synthesizers in a Dungeon Synth / Dark Ambient that brings something very impressive: an experimental side little explored in Brazil and that has a very positive syntony with the old world.

There are a total of 07 tracks and 43 minutes of an immersion in the mind of one of the great wolves of the national extreme metal, an enigmatic cover emanates a golden era in which the wolves roamed free through the forests and vivid forests of a dark tone demonstrate depth and believe that’s what ULVENS ends up hitting the nail on the head….in June we were right in the middle of what was expected for the peak of the pandemic in our country and this devout climate, deep, atmospheric at times suffocating is a reflection of a moment of detachment and diving abysmal in its very existence.
What begins in “Manifestation Of The Essence” seems to eclipse and transport us to a primal place far from the walls and bars that enslave our inner wolf, making us live in a world of sheep, here we are free….that’s the feeling, even more so when we’re at the height of “Into The Void Of Forest“…it’s opening a beer, tasting the Jagermeinster and letting OldWolf help you through this bleak, bleak journey necessary for any Übermensch looking for their inner (wolf) self and , I could even listen to Nietzsche, in this sense: “What have you done to overcome it?”
Perhaps the answer lies in a deep reflection in the lilting and gloomy “Fathers And Mothers From Ancient Times” or in the mystical “Towards The Stars Unsen (Ascension)”, ULVENS is something to listen to alone, without interruptions, without distractions, without humans, without the life that knocks at the door. Turn off and experience eclipses of a world you can only dream of. Entirely intangible, such an existence is possible for 43 minutes. If you haven’t purchased this one-way ticket….you will never know what it is to be free.
In “Spectral Sphere ” we realize how Oldwolf can be dark and imaginative and still give glimpses of something tranquil, it’s like a candle in the wind in a dark rainy night, we can’t see with the flickering light….but it’s still there…
The end of the demo arrives with “Astral luminous” and the owls and creatures of the night manifest themselves to the sound of organs and synthesizers that doesn’t seem to bother them, the music simply exists, mixed with the forest, carved into existence…and that’s what makes ULVENS more than a Dark Ambient project, it is a one-way ticket… for those who still dream of existential freedom within our limited temporality.
