Pollution Chamber hails from Spain and is the product of the whirling mind of S.C.R. We had the opportunity to chat4 with him in the midst of the pandemic and just in time not to miss the timing of his debut album and to get his first impressions of this release. The project is based in Spain and has that innovative feature that the Iberian have shown over the years in the underground world.
The album “Reflections on the Element of Perdition” has just been released and Pollution Chamber is ready for his underground journey through experiments, technical and bold Black Metal.
====================
Could you introduce our readers to the Pollution Chambers?
Pollution Chamber is the soundtrack of our own misery. It seeks to capture our dirtiest and most toxic part, which comes from our mere existence.
How is the BLACK METAL SCENE in Spain nowadays? How could you compare NOW and back in the 90’s when everything started.
I can’t compare those times since I was born in December 87 and in the 90s I was into something different. In Spain, trends that emerge in Europe or America always arrive later, but although we always go a step backwards, I know that the first bands that emerged here in the 90s were very passionate and had a lot of difficulties due to the lack of support at all levels, so those bands are really important. For instance, Argar, Empty, Blazemth or Uruk Hai.
The “Accelerated Deterioration of Humanity” the demo is the last release until the new album itself. Do you consider that the songs have the title of MGLA songs? Distant and not personal and with “no demon x angel lyrics”.
They have nothing to do with MGLA. In fact, except for the first EPs I haven’t paid attention to that band. It would be more accurate to say that “The Mystical Beast of Rebellion” and “MoRT” by Blut Aus Nord inspired me to put those titles.
How do you describe your sound? Which characteristics would you say talking specifically on the new album?
Pollution Chamber is the sound of our own filth, it is a walk through our landfills, the dirt that we drag across the entire soil. Pollution Chamber is mud, grime, and grease. It is black smoke with a plastic smell emanated from a burning forest.
The demo is from 2018, so how has this journey being? Because you kind of released a demo and we were caught by the COVID-19 pandemic right on your new album release.
The album was recorded long before this global pandemic appeared. It suffered a delay since the label Transcending Obscurity Records finally decided not to release it after waiting for its release for a year.
What bands do you support or are you listening to recently? Besides Black Metal it can be.
Empty, Spektr, Depths Above, Yersinia Pestis, Zalmoxis, Lorn, Elder, Thou (Nirvana versions are killer), Tyranni, YOB, Los Natas, Mortiferum, Mortuous…
Black Spirit and Pollution Chamber, the same person behind both projects. How does it feel like you have two entities and do you express totally different in each of them. How does that work? Why 2 projects if both are Black Metal?
For me, it is easy to differentiate the two projects, because they have totally different ways of expressing themselves. While Black Spirit is more traditional and uses more classical resources, Pollution Chamber is open to experimentation and although I use Black Metal as a common thread, I don’t hesitate to use any element if that makes the music more interesting.
Do you have other projects outside the BM field?
Yes, I have other projects besides Black Metal like Cantos de Muerte (ambient, neo-folk) and Ataraxy (Death metal).
I like Black Spirit. but Pollution Chambers sounds more technical to me. Are you still experimenting to find the “best style” for Pollution Chambers? Because Black Spirit sound more concrete as a band itself. I don’t know if I could express it in the right way…
You’re right, Black Spirit has a more coherent structure than Pollution Chamber. Pollution Chamber is not for anyone who isn’t looking to be immersed in an amalgam of poisonous and industrial sounds. I don’t know if technical is the word, but yes, I try to put experiments with my guitar that in other projects wouldn’t have a place in. So for me it is a way of trying things that I have never done before.
You don’t have any splits yet. Are there any plans for splits in the near future for both bands?
Yes, in the next few months I am going to start preparing a Pollution Chamber split with Czech Depths Above.
What are your plans for 2021? The year has basically just begun.
To move these two releases of Infinite Nights Records (I’m open to trade) and compose and record this PC split and finish the next Atarax’s album.
You now can leave us a message worldwide. It’s up to you.
