Russia is an epicenter of Extreme Metal and that’s where the enigmatic Гнёт comes from. Bringing a Black Metal with few atmospheric elements, but based on a cold and raw Black Metal, Гнёт presents another full album, this one titled “Горечь“. One-man band project, led by Maxim Levin, of which no other information is found, what caught my attention is that Гнёт started its activities in 2020 and since then has recorded four albums, the last one we bring the review.
The Russian Underground is very broad and we know that technology today allows bands or projects to record in their homes, in your bedroom, even in your bathroom – check Moonblood in the past – , I wanted to bring this review for this raw album Black Metal don’t pass up the internet speed, neglect or lack of attention in vain: if you like raw Black Metal, it’s an interesting project. The prolific leader of the project doesn’t skimp on the rawness and low quality of the production, so we have “poor sound” here, if you like Black Metal in this line, it’s a good discovery from the Russian underworld. Altogether there are 8 raw tracks without feelings and icy. A bit like Moonblood and Nachtfalke, of course, it has that Burzum feel from the first album, which is inevitable for the executed style. Here even the most harmonic passages are dry and raw, in the best raw Black Metal style, so be warned of the sharp sound and not appreciated by the most sensitive people.
