There’s no better feeling than putting on an album you’ve never heard before in a totally unpretentious way and realizing right from the first chords that something far above average is in front of you. It took me a long time to hear “Hypocrisys Absolution” and I regret it a lot because, honestly, what an absurdly sensational album!!!! As it often happens to me, there are so many albums to listen and so little time and sometimes we miss some rare gems and if I had known about “Hypocrisis Absolution” before, it would certainly be on my list of the best albums of 2021. This one duo from Finland is formed by guitarist/bassist and vocalist P.J who also plays in Morgal and has been in bands such as Armour, Satanic Warmaster and is accompanied here by the great drummer Grond. The music performed by the band is an aggressive Black Metal, most of the time extremely fast and with very melodic guitar lines reminding me at times of “Tusen ar har gatt” the first album by the Swedish Mork Gryning, some passages have a certain Speed\Heavy Metal inspiration and brought to mind the most recent albums by the Australians Destroyer 666, another element that can refer to this band are the magnificent and powerful vocals of P.J that have several layers and textures managing to be even “semi melodic” at times without losing aggression; on the contrary, the different vocal inflections of P.J manage to give you the impression of an overwhelming fury and genuine hatred. Highlights ? the fast track “Thunder of the awakening” that opens the album and “Call to arms” that arrives in the sequel without giving you time to even think will leave your blood boiling; pay attention to the end of the second song mentioned and its sensational epic vocals. “Like rats they followed” with its atypically more cadenced beginning and which somehow sounds like a military march, the beautiful “Bloodlust and Immortality” that closes the album in a masterful way and that shows all the versatility of P.J’s vocals at their best performance. I could not fail to mention with special attention the track “Wolf and the Moon” which is supreme and alone would be worth the acquisition of this album. This is one of those compositions that you can put on repeat for hours without getting tired with its perfectly placed vocals, wonderful lyrics, guitar lines with melodies that surely came from the depths of P.J’s dark soul and stupendous drum work… Holy shit what a magnificent song!! The exceptional quality and care that the band took with this first full length makes me curious and anxious about what the future holds for Malignament.
